It was reported Wednesday 19th March 2008, that a man broke into a supermarket in St. Vincent and stole bread, a tin of corn beef and a packet of biscuits. This kind of social crime is a very strong warning that SVG is on a path to starvation under Ralph Gonsalves weak economic leadership.

Under the economically incompetent ULP government, families have experienced a large rise in the cost of living. It is difficult for many families, especially those of the poor, to adequately clothe, feed and educate their children. Many poor families have to make stark choices: do they send their children to school or do they feed their children. Some families cannot afford to do both.

Poverty is increasing in SVG and it does not discriminate. Poverty doesn’t care how you voted in previous elections; it may still come to your door. Whether you are ULP or NDP, you could find yourself in poverty, because the cost of living in SVG is high and is getting higher every month.

The ULP regime has devastated the SVG economy. We need a government in SVG that supports people when times are hard, not one that kicks people in the teeth. While people are suffering all over SVG, all the ULP regime seems to do is invent more taxes and impoverish more families. This is a serious problem for SVG, because people in poverty lack the money to buy enough food to nourish themselves. Being constantly malnourished, they become weaker and often sick. This makes them increasingly less able to work, which then makes them even poorer and hungrier. This downward spiral often continues until death for them and their families.

For the forthcoming general election, put aside your old party allegiance and bring forth country allegiance. Both the ULP and NDP regimes do not have the economic intelligence to create jobs and a strong SVG economy. Changing from the ULP to the NDP will be like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. A vote for these parties will only increase the extent of poverty in SVG and it will not improve your long-term financial position.

SVG Green Party has the ideas and the ability to provide long-term economic stability in SVG. Only a Green government can protect your home, protect your family and protect your business, because only SVG Green Party has the ideas and ability for economic, social and environmental long-term stability in SVG.

SVG’s economy is badly managed, with the ULP regime relying on begging and borrowing. Begging and borrowing is not sustainable though with rising government re-current expenditure. ULP regime policies are starving the economy and the poor.

A Green government will abolish VAT. VAT is choking the economy, reducing business sales and making families poorer. An SVG Green Party government will abolish stupid ULP laws that restrict the economy and place more families in to poverty. A Green government has the economic intelligence to stop the tide of poverty that is creeping over SVG and a Green government will provide a strong economy, creating new jobs, money in your pocket and food on your table.
