NDP - another protest, but so what?

The NDP protests about the way the ULP regime runs this country. Their thoughts that the ULP regime are doing a bad job are correct, but what have the NDP got to offer?

The NDP and ULP are similar in many ways. Just to highlight a few: the NDP said that it would continue to have ties with Taiwan, even though this is detrimental to our economy; the NDP would continue basing our economy mainly on bananas and tourism; the NDP, like the ULP, have sold much land to foreigners, putting Vincentians second; the NDP had 17 years of power and showed that it could not make SVG flourish; the NDP built monuments to record their time in power, but these monuments were not sustainable revenue earners for the economy; there was no significant drop in poverty levels under the NDP; public debt rose substantially under the NDP; NDP economic policies have never and are not geared towards long-term economic, social and environmental sustainability for SVG, but have had too much dependence on the outside world. It is difficult to see difference between the NDP and ULP as both rely on begging and borrowing.

Twenty-three years of NDP and ULP governments have highlighted one thing - that the way to a flourishing and sustainable society is through a competent economics. SVG is not a flourishing and sustainable society, because both the NDP and ULP lack the economic aptitude that SVG needs.

The core of the NDP philosophy now is pretty much the same as when it had 17 years in government. If they couldn’t get things right in those 17 years, then do we really want another 17 of much of the same? The NDP say they offer an alternative to the ULP, but do they really? We have to be aware also, that it’s not just an alternative that SVG needs, it’s not just a change that SVG needs. Just changing things doesn’t necessarily improve society.

The pressing issues facing our country are crime and poverty. The long-term issues facing our country are economic, social and environmental sustainability, not just for the rich, but for all, especially people living in poverty. In the long-term, every family needs to be financial secure. The essence to secure this is economics - an economics where society is geared to enable everyone to advance and enable everyone to not live in fear of crime. The previous NDP government could not deliver this, the present ULP regime clearly can’t, and society isn’t convinced that another NDP government could.

We urge you not to be fooled by the pomp and ceremony of present and past government. Political parties that build things just to mark their reign - such as stadiums, resource centres, Ottley Hall - don’t earn sustainable revenue for the economy or you.

The core issue has been and will always be economics. Good economics creates wealthy countries and eradicates crime and poverty. SVG Green Party offers this necessary economic expertise. The economics of SVG Green Party will help all communities and when it comes to selling land SVG Green Party will put Vincentians first.
